Wednesday, May 26

It has been a busy few days.

Maddy has continued to be sick and coughing but it is not as bad as it has been. Now David is complaining of a sore throat and he has a cough. That is family life!!! Even though she was not feeling well she still made it to ballet practice yesterday, Tuesday, and after that she went to be with Carolyn, who in spite of her own illness, was playing piano at Jeffers Hill Elementary's orchestra and chorus performance. Maddy was turning pages while Carolyn played.

Today we had a early am meeting with some of David's teachers. He is struggling in several classes and is in danger of not passing (He is already a grade behind). It was a good meeting with a lot of positive ideas shared. We are thankful for this special school that is so caring and dedicated to helping those kids with special needs.

Carolyn had her 3 1/2 hour chemotherapy treatment today. This is the "Heavy one" that she gets every three weeks. It means she is going to have a very hard week ahead. In spite of having to go and have toxic chemicals drip into her veins we have met some nice people who are engaged in the same heroic fight against cancer. We look forward to seeing them and encouraging them as well as the encouragement we get.

There is a resource center next to the oncology center and Carolyn stopped in to see about getting a new "head turban," she tried on several but had a hard time deciding. The lady working there was very kind and brought out a box of "Freebies" and said Carolyn could pick out two if she liked. It was like a turban fashion show for me after that. She tired on one and then another and then some more. After about a half hour she found what she wanted and bought one and chose two two from the "Freebies box." It is nice she will have some options when she goes out beside the one and the wig. I was very thankful for the woman's generosity. We also found out that her application for some extra treatments at the support center was granted so she is going to get some acupuncture to help with some pain and other side effects of the chemo.

We are especially thankful that the "Sick bank" was approved. Now that her sick leave has run out we were waiting on pins and needles for this. The Sick Bank is good for up to 20 days of additional sick leave. The letter said we were approved for 28 days! That will carry us through to summer when her teacher summer stipend kicks in.

I just came back from taking Joey to his guitar lesson. I am very proud of his guitar playing I hope it serves him well and he uses this gift well.

One of the nice people where Carolyn teaches brought over a lasagna for our dinner today. We are very thankful for all of the wonderful people who have been helping during this time.

Now Evil Kitty is sitting on the master bathroom sink giving me the wicked eye and meowing for me to turn on the water for him to get a drink, so I will go and fight the good fight- may angels protect me from Evil Kitty! (Oh, why can't he just drink out of the toilet like a regular cat?)
