Today was Christmas. We as a family went down to the living room and exchanged gifts. Scarves are in fashion this year and many were given. Packages were open to reveal books, shirts, electronics, gift cards and other treasures.
My best gift was from my oldest college age son.
He gave me an envelope, inside was a letter. It began, "There are some things I've been meaning to say for a while, and I think Christmas seems like a good time to say them..." He proceeded for two pages to relate the things I did to help shape him into the fine man he is. He quoted some of my favorite Bible verses, no doubt having heard them from me often, and said they were a powerful influence in his decision making. He concluded with, "I know you don't hear it often enough from me or anyone else, but I love you and I'm glad that you're my Dad."
I cannot express the humility and thankfulness I felt reading this. I felt this was the greatest honor in my life; I felt blessed and grateful to the Lord for putting a wonderful man in my family.
