Thankful to See Art

Sometimes we have to put thankfulness on the agenda of our lives. We have to plan in our busy day to take a moment and express thankfulness to God and others.

Also sometimes we need to plan in our lives the good things for which we are now and will be later thankful for. Yesterday when I drove my teen aged daughter to school I told her about an exhibit of photography near the school at the community center. I suggested we visit and see the photographs after school because I know she is interested in photo arts.

After school we stopped at the community center and I was amazed at her involvement in the photos. She analyzed each one and explained the technique and process the photographer used. I was full of paternal pride to see my daughter so conversant on the subject. I anticipated that we would walk through the gallery and give each photo a glance but instead we spent a goodly amount of time there. I watched as she looked each one over sometimes getting her face right up the the glass to look closely. She told me about back lighting and software for photography, and pixels, and grain and much more that went over my head.

After we came home she started looking all over the house, saying, "Where is my camera, I got to take some pictures." She finally found it and disappeared outside to photograph the golden autumn leaves against the blue sky.

I was thankful to see her so excited and I am thankful to learn a little about my daughter.

If I had not taken the time to go there with her I, and she, would have missed out. I planned it knowing I would find something to be  thankful about but I could not have known just how much I would really appreciate the time spent with her.
